The images coming out of the last weeks in Afghanistan have been difficult for my family to watch as I’m sure they’ve been for all Americans. I can only imagine how the brave men and women who have given so much to defend our country are feeling. NYPD Pizza is doing something to honor past and present military men and women. Check out what they just posted on their facebook page:
“In honor of the 13 service members who lost their lives in the Kabul airport terrorist attack, we are keeping a table reserved in their honor at our Avondale location. And because it’s our honor to serve so many that have risked it all for our country and our families, the NYPD family wants to treat any military member – past or present – to their first slice. For the next 13 days with ID because we will never forget and we are always grateful. #Foodislove Nikki West, CEO”
Nikki is in a group called Vistage with my husband and she has become a friend of mine. She is truly one of the most deeply caring individuals you will meet.
Here’s the story behind the deal that she said I could share:
“FREE PIZZA and a surprise for military at NY for next 13 days..here is why: Yesterday it happened. I was in line at a chick fil a and he walked in ahead of me. His wife struggling with two young kids, a dog, and a mother-in-law. I saw how his hair was cut, the tats, and recognized the stance. I saw how the hustle and bustle affected him and how he instinctively moved so his back was against a wall and he could watch the door. So I quietly asked – Marines? He smiled knowingly at me and said “no ma’am Navy but just left a bunch of Marines”. I instantly thanked him for his service and waited for the normal response of “thank you for your support”. Instead I saw tears and emptiness at once and he did thank me but added “it’s just really hard right now. Just happy to be home for now”. Gut check friends. So I sneakily bought their lunch, hugged the wife who cried quietly when I said I was praying for them, and told the kids their daddy was a hero. And I went and told my team what had happened and this is what we decided to do. So if you’re inclined – please spread the word. Never forgotten and always grateful. Thank you.”
Please share with any military men and women you know!
