“The scenic chairlifts drop passengers off at 11,500 feet to the peak of an extinct volcano, where, depending on the weather, they can see for up to 70 miles around. The trip takes about 25 minutes each way, with plenty of time at the top for sightseeing. Forest service rangers are on hand to point out landmarks—including the Grand Canyon, cinder-cone volcanic fields, and Sedona’s red rocks—and educate visitors about the alpine tundra beneath their feet. Passengers aged 7 and under or 70 and older ride free. Scenic chairlift rides operate Friday—Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., May 22 through mid-October.”
