This could be one of the most important deals I’ve talked about in a very long time. It’s 4/20 and if you don’t already know that means it’s National Weed Day. This is the day that many young people will try marijuana for the first time.

Drug abuse has affected a family member close to me and I know how destructive it can be (and how common it is for young people to move from weed to heroin, an epidemic problem in our state).

Many parents don’t think their children are interested in drugs but the peer pressure out there is huge.

Not My Kid is a wonderful organization that focuses on helping families with all of the challenges kids face. In honor of 4/20 they are handing out free drug test kits (a $40 value) at their main office in Scottsdale until 5 PM. The address is 5230 E Shea Blvd # 100, Scottsdale, AZ 85254. Head over here for more information on their facebook page. If you can’t get over there today, call them. I did and they said they offer the free kits on a regular basis.

If you test your teenagers (and let them know that you’re going to every now and then) it gives them a good excuse NOT to get high at the party this weekend. They can blame their “dumb parents” or even “that stupid blogger who told their parents about free test kits”.  I honestly believe that kids want their parents to help them stay on a good path.

My family member is extremely lucky. He is back in school, has a steady job, and has been off drugs for awhile. Some of his friends are dead. It’s so scary to think about how easily drugs can wreck your life.
