Dreading overseeding this year? If you have a grass lawn and have been considering getting rid of it for desert landscaping or turf, several AZ cities will pay you to do it. Every program requires pre-approval before work begins, so check your local guidelines first! Check out each city’s rebate structure and link to application below:

• The Deal: $2.00 per square foot.
• The Cap: Up to a massive $10,000 maximum payout per project.
• The Fine Print: Requires a minimum removal of 250 square feet of live, healthy grass. Projects must be completed within 6 months of your pre-approval date.

• The Deal: Up to $4,200 per residential property.
• The Cap: The standard rebate is normally capped at $2,100, but thanks to temporary matching sponsorships from SRP and Google, the incentive is doubled!
• The Fine Print: Homeowners must remove at least 500 square feet of grass and replace it with desert-adapted low-water plants covering at least 50% of the converted area.

• The Deal: Up to $1 per square foot plus a $1,000 desert plant bonus.
• The Cap: Up to $3,000 total ($2,000 base cap for removing 2,000+ sq ft of grass, plus the $1,000 plant incentive).
• The Fine Print: Minimum conversion area is 200 square feet. Rebates are applied directly as a credit to your town utility bill.

• The Deal: $2.00 per square foot.
• The Cap: Up to $5,000 for residential properties.
• The Fine Print: Scottsdale runs their program in seasonal application cycles. Make sure to get city pre-approval before initiating any part of your removal project.

• The Deal: $1.50 per square foot for grass to Xeriscape.
• The Cap: Up to $2,000 max for single-family residences.
• The Fine Print: Requires a minimum removal of 500 square feet of non-synthetic grass. The new layout must achieve 50% living plant coverage at maturity.

• The Deal: $1.00 per square foot for a xeriscape transition, or $0.25 per square foot if installing artificial turf.
• The Cap: Up to $3,000 max for existing home desert landscape conversions. (Artificial turf caps out at a lower $250 max).
• The Fine Print: Tiered scales determine the exact payout based on the size of the lawn you pull out.
• Apply Here: City of Glendale Water Conservation Program 

• The Deal: Scaled flat rates based on the total area removed and plant canopy coverage.
• The Cap: Up to $3,000 max.
• The Fine Print: Payout tiers start at $1,500 for converting 1,000 to 1,499 sq ft (with 50% plant canopy) and scale up to $3,000 for projects over 2,500 sq ft.

• The Deal: $0.50 per square foot.
• The Cap: Up to $2,000 per home, per fiscal year.
• The Fine Print: The newly converted desert area must feature at least 30% living plant coverage.
