Kaitlyn Markham and Karina Zavari, founders of MathMagicians, had their first 1-week camp for 5-10-year-old kids with ADHD and/or Dyslexia a couple of weeks ago and it was a huge success…there was even a big waitlist! ABC 15 came by and did a story about the camp (you can see it here) and Good Morning Arizona interviewed the girls before the camp (you can see that interview here). The Catholic Sun wrote an article (you can see that here).
Because they were not able to accommodate all of the kids who wanted to participate, they are hosting three 1-day, 3-hour programs at the Civic Center Library (kudos to the Scottsdale Public Library for donating the space). The day camps will be held July 10th, 11th, or 12th from 2-5 PM. You can head over here to sign your child up for the day of your choice (space is limited). MathMagicians has a dedicated mentor, teachers helping them design the FUN curriculum, and a team of volunteers who are ready to share their love of math with the kids. There will be games, prizes, snacks, and lots of fun and learning for everyone in attendance! They are “on a mission to make learning fun and enjoyable for young kids by teaching them math through fun and interactive activities.”
I was helping out at the camp checking kids in and out (full disclosure Kaitlyn is my daughter and Karina is her lovely friend) and one mom told me that her daughter did not want to go at first but came away saying it was the “best thing ever”. Another mom said her son couldn’t wait to get home and call his aunt to demonstrate his new division skills. The feedback was incredibly positive and the kids left saying they liked math more at the end of the week than they had at the beginning of the week.
